Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school consists of over 68% of the students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Some of my students are already facing challenges in trying to blend in and learn a new language. Many of the kids are English Language Learners who have immigrated to this country. Many students come from households that are limited to helping them with basic skills. They depend 100% on all school materials to learn new concepts, do research, and create projects. All kids, regardless of their backgrounds, are eager to learn and have new experiences.
My Project
With our school district being 100% remote learning and no signs of us returning in person anytime soon, it has been a big challenge to engage them into to learning because of the simple fact that they can't see what I'm holding up. With a document camera I will be able to project my teaching to them and they will have a better view of what I am modeling and be able to follow my lessons and participate in class. One of the periods that my students enjoy the most is Read Aloud, they love being read to! They enjoy hearing and reading books that they see themselves in, books that deal with diversity and how to be kind to all. A document camera will bring these books closer to them to read and enjoy!
