My Students

There is never a dull day in 5th grade. We have 28 students in the classroom, most just coming to the United States within the past 2 to 3 years. Some have just recently came to us because of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. There is not a day that goes by that I marvel at how strong these children are coming from situations and places that would test the strongest adult. Yes they are resilient.

The students learn English quickly and put so much effort into reading and writing English every day.

They translate to their parents to keep them informed about what is going on in the classroom and what they are learning. The cultural diversity in our classroom is inspiring as the children work together. We talk about how we have different customs and yet how much the same we all are. It's a great place to teach and I learn from the children every day.

My Project

The use of white boards in the classroom is essential for everyday learning. Students are free to make mistakes and easily fix their errors. Colors help with corrections and explanation and different properties. The use of white boards really keep the students engaged and participating in the lesson being presented.

The requested highlighters will help the students see the details and new vocabulary readily.

This strategy teaches the student how to condense their details and find the important details. The magnetic clips will really help to display things on the whiteboard. A well-run classroom that is organized helps streamline the learning.
