Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Zen Zones is an innovative initiative designed to create a dedicated space where high school students aspiring to become healthcare workers, can take social-emotional breaks. It features comfortable seating, sensory toys, engaging games such as Life, Monopoly, Operation, and puzzles of the human heart and body, as well as coloring books, slime, and a clean water cooler for safe drinking. Additionally, snacks and tea are available to support students from low-income households, ensuring they remain nourished and hydrated. The Zen Zone provides a calming retreat where students can manage stress and practice mindfulness, essential for their demanding future roles in healthcare. The space is designed to support emotional regulation, which is crucial for maintaining a compassionate and patient-centered approach in their professional development. Through games and collaborative activities, students can develop and refine their communication skills. The interactive elements promote teamwork and problem-solving, which are valuable skills for their future careers in healthcare. The inclusion of medical-themed puzzles and educational games allows students to reinforce their knowledge of human anatomy and healthcare concepts in a relaxed setting, blending learning with leisure. Zen Zones is tailored to meet the needs of a diverse student body, including low-income, immigrant, and English Learner students. By providing snacks and tea, the space ensures that all students have access to necessary nourishment, helping to bridge gaps caused by economic disparities. The space is designed with sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students. This is especially important for immigrant children and English Learners, who may face additional challenges in their educational journey. For students who are adapting to a new culture or learning a new language, the space offers a supportive environment to ease the transition. It fosters a sense of community and belonging, which can significantly reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety.
