My Students
Our students work hard each and every day when they walk into our school. They create wonderful projects, explore new worlds and tackle new challenges everyday. We are a Title I school, in which many of our students come from challenges at home that are beyond their control. Yet, they come through our doors ready to learn.
Our school is diverse and celebrates it everyday.
Our hallways represent our cultures through student work and collaborative murals. Our students are encouraged to share their traditions and values within our classrooms. This breeds a sense of worth and cultural empathy in our young children with the hopes that it will carry on through their lives.
My Project
Our classroom is designed to create a relaxing place to learn; there are bean bags to lose yourself in a book, soft music playing to inspire a sonnet or haiku, and tables of various sizes to create the perfect novel. There is only a couple things holding our creativity back.
The piles of journals and harsh lighting cramp our learning style!
Having their journals and books in an easy access and organized place will allow them to jump right into their writing. Light filters will subdue the glare of the flourescent lights that beam overhead.
Imagine a classroom as relaxing as a book cafe. Students so invested in their reading that they get upset when it is time to close their books. Students that have their writing journals at their fingertips ready for them to fill the pages as soon as the inspiration hits them. These book bins and light filters can help that happen!
