My Project
Our teaching team has approximately 160 amazing students. Out of these 160, typically 40% or more are deficient in math. In efforts to have all my math students attain growth in math our district is supplementing classroom instruction with Zearn. Zearn is a computer program that works with each child on grade level work and uses Artificial Intelligence to back up and fill in missed concepts. This allows every child accessibility to math. Zearn for middle schoolers follows our Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum and gives the students a digital platform to grow. This program is beneficial to all students including those at or above grade level.
I want to incentivize our students with silicone (croc style) shoe charms, mechanical pencils, and candy so they earn something as they complete their weekly lessons.
Our students enjoy working on Zearn and they are expected to complete a minimum of 3 lessons each week. Incentives are needed to help our children meet this goal and keep the momentum going. Middle schoolers like to collect items and the rubber charms are easy to wear on a bracelet, a laced up shoe, or their Crocs. Three lessons a week and you earn a charm, candy, or a mechnical pencil. Easy!
Lesson completion appears to be directly correlated to improved test scores and more growth. The lessons complement classroom instruction.
