My Students
My students are diverse with varied backgrounds and experiences. Many have never cooked before and are learning kitchen safety and sanitation, nutrition, and cooking methods for the first time. The classes are full of lots of eager, excited kids who can't wait to learn how to cook and expand their skills.
Our school was built in the 1970s and we are working hard to update the technology and supplies needed to help our students become more productive and self-reliant.
Students are excited to learn and use resources that will help connect them with the world outside their classroom and pique their curiosity, which in turn enhances their learning capabilities!
My Project
COVID-restrictions require not only social distancing (2 per kitchen), but students can only use individualized equipment in the kitchen labs. To top it all off, our working budget was cut 80%, so we simply don't have the funds to make it happen.
Too many of our students struggle with fractions, but when they apply those fractions by adding measuring cups and measuring spoons into the mix, it becomes definitely yummy and almost effortless!
With your kind help, I will have enough equipment for students to use equipment without sharing with others and still be able to practice math and cooking skills.
Most of my kids take Family Consumer Science classes to cook and eat, but along the way they learn how to use fractions using measuring equivalents and conversions, Students learn other life skills such as cooking techniques, following a recipe, nutrition, and more!
