My Project
My amazing first-grade students are bright, motivated, and one-of-a-kind individuals. They put a smile on my face each and every day, and they all enjoy coming to school and succeeding in the classroom. My students with special needs thrive from organization and routines! Each day we have mail coming in and out and it is important that each student has a place for their work and information. This mail includes notes sent home from teachers, therapists, and administration. Most importantly, it includes their classwork, art projects, and drawings they have created for their classmates.
We are in need of a new mailbox system to help us stay organized, help us gain independence, and create a sense of ownership in our classroom.
This mailbox will help my students increase their independence in the classroom. The mailboxes will be labeled with their names so they know which mailbox is theirs. The mailbox system will help them increase their ability to recognize their names in print as well as recognize the names of their classmates. Students will be asked to put their take-home folders and work they complete throughout the day in their designated mailbox. Students will then be assigned a classroom job of "postal workers", and they will be in charge of emptying the student mailboxes each day and putting the work into their backpacks. The classroom mailbox will help with the flow of morning and dismissal routines, while teaching independence and organizational routines at a young age.
