My students need their own mailbox with a tabletop communication center. Since my classes are departmentalized and I use flex seating, there is no personal place for my students to place their papers or things.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have some of the hardest working students from all over the world. I have students from Mexico, Mynamar, Nepal, the Congo, Afghanistan, and many more. Many of our children are refugees, or come from disenfranchised countries.
Our community is home to both native Charlotteans, new arrivals from across the United States, as well as a growing immigrant population.
60% of the students in my 2 blocks are LEP students; while over 90% of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students come from a single parent home.
Although all of the statistics against them, they want to succeed. For the past 2 years, the students at my school have EXCEEDED their growth expectations. These are some great students who deserve the American Dream.
My Project
My students receive a lot of daily mail. To get the letters or items out in an organized way, it would help if each of my students have their own personal mailbox.
I teach 2 third grade math classes a day with about 20 students in each class.
I also teach in a flex classroom, so my students do not have their own desk. If a parent said they didn't know of an event, receive a letter, or receive anything that needed to go home, I can easily check their mailbox to see if the student picked up their mail! I am requesting for a tabletop communication center.
