My Project
I teach a bright and curious group of 3rd through 5th graders in a public elementary school. Many of my students come from diverse backgrounds, and for many, extracurricular activities are a lifeline for connection, confidence, and community.
We need durable, tournament-style chess sets so every student can have a fair chance to participate fully.
Right now, we are trying to make do with mismatched or worn-out boards and pieces. With proper equipment, I can teach the game more effectively, organize regular club play, and even host inter-school mini-tournaments for our school district.
Chess helps build focus, problem-solving, resilience, patience, and sportsmanship. These are life skills students will carry far beyond the board.
Students of all skill levels are welcome, and the energy in the room when they play is electric — they coach one another, celebrate clever moves, and analyze games with surprising insight.
By donating to this project, you're helping give all students equal access to a full set, host club meetings and friendly tournaments, and build a lasting foundation for a tradition of critical thinking and collaboration.
