Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students LOVE technology and want to find as many ways as possible to incorporate it into their schoolwork. Using a digital camera can be a fun and creative way to do just that!

My students are AMAZING fifth graders, who deserve the very best!

They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school I teach at is considered "high poverty," so some students do not have the same opportunities as others. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title 1 program. Although my students are diverse in race and background, they are all creative by nature and eager to improve their photography skills. Our urban school is located in a community that supports the arts. Many students come into school looking forward to taking a photo and presenting it to the class. For some of them, this connection to the arts is the only thing that keeps them in school.

My Project

I can think of dozens of projects that I can use the digital camera for! Students may use the digital camera to: show life cycles, track plant growth, illustrate the parts of speech, demonstrate types of matter, display geometrical figures in "the real world", and even create picture fraction books. Our music and art lessons can also incorporate this camera by students taking pictures and creating name (of objects, artists, or instruments) matching games. In our nonfiction writing we can take pictures of school events and post them to our class website. Our community would love that we are sharing events at our school. Finally, we can also use the camera to create pictures for a school newspaper.

This "higher level of thinking" project allows students to reteach objectives through photography and encourages hands-on learning.

Please help make learning exciting and bring my students to the 21st Century! None of my students are able to afford a high quality camera and may otherwise never get to use one. Please help them acquire new equipment to prepare them for the future.
