Thanks to donors like you my students got new microscopes early this year. Now we need a set of slides that we can view with them. This year started with big budget cuts in our school, and we can't afford to buy these materials for my class.
I teach science in a school in Brooklyn with a 57% poverty rate.
I work with 250 second grade to fifth grade students. My students are always full of questions. They enjoy doing experiments in class, observing, manipulating materials, measuring, and making predictions. They love to learn how scientists gather and share information.
My Project
My students will use the slides in the microscopes to observe and pose questions. It is never too early to expose them to new tools that can help them explore. Using the prepared slide kits, they will get an up-close look at plants and insects. With the blank slides they will collect things that they want to observe microscopically and view them using the microscopes. New slides will help my students visualize the microscopic world around them.
Do you remember the first time you used a microscope?
Having new slides will inspire the students to observe from a scientific perspective. By donating these materials to my classroom, you are helping me foster my students' love for inquiry and science.
