My students need a variety of hands-on science experiment activities such as simple machines, lenses and mirrors, circuits, vocabulary cards, and games.

My Students
Do you remember the first time you built a simple machine with your own hands, saw the way mirrors reflect light with your own eyes, or built an electronic circuit all by yourself? My young scientists would love to learn from these hands-on scientific explorations.
I teach science to small groups of third and fifth grade English language learners in rural Minnesota.
My students are immigrants from countries such as Mexico, Sudan, Laos, and Liberia. They are bright, eager, and kind. They yearn to learn as much about science as they can, but it is difficult to teach them without any hands-on experiments or activities.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will allow my students to conduct their own hands-on scientific experiments in a variety of units. They will learn about simple machines, force, and motion by building their own levers, pulleys, wheels, axles, and wedges. They will learn about electricity by building their own circuits. They will learn about light by experimenting with lenses and mirrors. Vocabulary, reading, and basic skills will be reinforced with various picture cards, books, and a game.
These materials will help my students in ways that are impossible just by reading a book.
With these hands-on scientific activities, students will gain knowledge by going through the scientific process, making their own observations and questioning what they see and experience in the classroom. They will learn scientific vocabulary in a way that a textbook or glossary could never teach them. Please help my young scientists experience science in a way that has never been possible for them before.
