Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have asked my students if they have ever done any dissections in their 7th grade classes, and the sad fact is that their science teachers from last year did not do those types of labs with them.

I have taught 8th grade science in Compton, California for 5 years now.

Seventh grade is when my students should have been introduced to the anatomy of living things and I want my students to have a hands-on approach to understanding the different systems within a body since the have not experienced it up until this point during their middle school years.

My Project

Dissections increase students' knowledge of biology, and also provides new information for the scientist. I believe that the virtual dissection technique will not receive the same level of instruction and understanding from dissecting animals on the computer. I am requesting 50 frog dissection kits for their labs.

I think dissection is very important.

The hands-on experience with a real body means that you can truly appreciate anatomy, relations and variations. You're essentially performing operations every time you dissect so it gives you some appreciation of surgery at an early stage.
