This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My young scholars are thirsty for number sense knowledge. At their very young age they are curious to know how many of this and how many of that are in their environment. In order to learn to count they need lots of concrete objects and games to explore the world of numbers. Although the majority of them can route count to 5, they struggle with one to one correspondence. They need to touch and manipulate the objects they are counting over and over to remember and learn.

Repetition is the key at this young age, so everyday practice is crucial in getting them to learn important skills such as one to one correspondence and cardinality in order to move them along the road to financial literacy.

The materials I am requesting are all aimed at getting my students to learn these skills in a fun and engaging way in order to be able to move on to higher level mathematical skills such as adding and subtracting which is the foundation to becoming financially literate.
