Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Math, Science, and Technology Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in math and science. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEM.

My Project

My students will use the leveled nonfiction and fiction books to improve their reading skills. Every student in my class will be able to "shop" for books at their independent reading level. This will help them practice strategies and skills that were taught in books that are at their reading level building confidence, reading stamina, fluency, and comprehension. Also, having fiction and nonfiction book choices will allow my students to choose books that are interesting to them.

My classroom library will be stocked with interesting fiction and nonfiction books for the various reading levels represented in my class.

My students enjoy being able to choose their own books during Reader's Workshop. They will be able to build good reading habits as well as become stronger readers as the school year progresses.

My students will also benefit from the printer ink cartridges by being able to print out special projects and also printing out worksheets from our math and reading programs.
