Young Readers Need Books!

My students need more just right leveled books (levels C, D, E, F) to boost their independent reading skills.

My Students

My students are so excited to read each and every day they enter the classroom. However, many have entered 2nd grade already behind their peers, and will need to work hard to catch up. Right now, our biggest challenge for these beginning readers is having enough books for them to read.

My students come from a very diverse neighborhood just outside the city.

They come from all different backgrounds, both culturally and socioeconomically. Many of my students do not have access to books at home, especially ones suited for beginning readers...but oh how they want to read!! One student recently said to me, "I wish we had more books in the C bin. I have to read the same ones all the time." This comment broke my heart. My student really has a strong desire to read, but is quickly losing interest because of the lack of books at his "just right" level.

My Project

These books will go straight into our classroom library to be accessed by the beginning readers in our classroom. They will have many more books to choose from, and with any luck their interest in reading will again be sparked! Students will use these books to read independently each day, as well as read and share with partners in the classroom. They will have the chance to practice beginning reading skills, and grow as readers.

These books in the Classroom Leveled Library, levels C-F are the building blocks to help these young readers catch up to their peers by the end of 2nd grade!

With access to a variety of interesting books at their "just right" level, our beginning readers will have a chance to build up their skills each day. They have a long way to go, and being able to read A LOT is essential to their reading growth.
