This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students have not yet discovered books that they love. This project will allow my students to explore the exciting adventures in books and become avid readers!
My school is located in a low-income area and most of the students come from a low-socioeconomic family.
100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch, and for many of them, these are the only healthy and warm meals they receive each day. Most of the families cannot provide their children with any school supplies, and so I must rely on either my own funds or help from donors to provide these much needed supplies. In addition, most of my students are native Spanish speakers and many face significant hardships outside of school.
Our school sets high expectations for all of our students and we teach them that by focusing on their education, they can achieve their goals. Many of my students have dreams of going to college and becoming professionals, but they have to work extra hard to overcome the disadvantages they face everyday.
My Project
This project will allow me to provide my students with a plethora of books at their reading levels to help them develop their reading skills and discover their love for reading. Many of my students are one to two grade levels behind in their reading and as a new teacher, I do not have a wide variety of classroom books. This project will allow my students to explore many types of texts at various levels to develop their love for reading.
Each day, my students have opportunities to read books of their choosing. This new library will give my students more books to choose from. In addition, my students are able to borrow books from my classroom library to bring home each night to read. These books will give my students a bigger and better selection than our current library.
This project will fill my classroom library with fun and interesting grade level texts that my students can enjoy each day.
Having a classroom full of books creates a positive learning environment around reading. My goal for this project is for my students to become avid readers and enjoy the adventures and stories in these great books.
