My Students
Music is the laughter of life. It transcends poverty, race, religion, ethnic origin, economic classes and unites people in a way like nothing else. I am very blessed to be a first year music teacher with a wonderful problem; I have more students interested than I have instruments.
My students are very typical in some ways while very atypical in others.
Some of my students come from modest homes while others live in poverty. They attend the local public middle school which serves students from 6th grade through 8th grade. While some of my students are able to rent instruments from local music stores, the majority are not. As a first year teacher, I want my program to include everyone who is interested regardless of their financial background. Many of these students and their parents are still going through difficult times resulting from tornadoes that struck the state of Alabama last year. My students are very bright and very eager to learn. Many of my students are beginners, and I hope to instill in them a passion, appreciation, and love for music and the arts.
My Project
My students need three new violins and accessories such as String Care Kit and Electronic Chromatic tuners to expand and improve our growing string orchestra program. The resources that I am requesting will go directly into the hands of students. These violins and instrument accessories will allow more students to participate in string orchestra class. It gives them another reason to look forward to coming to school, and it may be the opportunity which carries them through high school and on to college. Being a member of a string orchestra allows a student the chance to express themselves through the world of music, opens their mind to new possibilities and gives them an appreciation for music and the arts.
While I wish every child could afford an instrument and the accessories that are required to perform with that instrument, my wish does not come true for many of my students.
These instruments will allow many more students the opportunity to learn, practice and perform who otherwise would be financially unable. Music is a blessing and these instruments and instrument accessories will help share that blessing to students now and in the future.
