Young Musicians Need Keyboards and Books!

My students need 1 electric music keyboard and 3 levels of keyboard books.

This project is fully funded

I am the general music teacher at 2 schools in metropolitan Illinois. I teach general music to over 600 students in grades K-8. A majority of my students, at the school for which this grant is being written, are bilingual in Spanish and English. My students are eager to learn how to play instruments, yet I am in the beginning stages of gathering an instrument and music book collection for student use at this school. The general music classes for primary grades include movement, singing, and playing instruments. Students in upper grades sing, play instruments, and focus more on music theory and listening to music. I recently started an afterschool keyboard program with the 5 keyboards we do have at the school. There are 10 students involved, and there are 2 students on each keyboard. My ultimate goal is to obtain an additional 15 keyboards for the classroom so the keyboards can be used by all students during music class. In order to reach that goal, I am requesting 1 keyboard with an adapter, plus keyboard books at 3 different levels of difficulty in this proposal. Having one additional keyboard would allow 2 more students to participate in the afterschool music program. Having a supply of keyboard books would allow me to teach the keyboard more effectively to students of varying ages and ability levels. The keyboards will be used to improvise, perform, and learn the fundamentals of notated music. All students in grades K-8 would be able to experience the satisfaction and joy that comes from performing music.
