We need more technology! In order for my students to become adequately exposed to modern technology, remain engaged in math, and have appropriate access to our school adopted Internet based math program, ST Math, we need handheld computers where students can explore, create, and learn.
Despite the hardships they face outside of our school, my 4th grade math students are smart, eager, and ready for a challenge.
We are a Title I school where nearly every student receives free breakfast as well as lunch. Many of our students are given weekly food bags to take home to get them through the weekend. Our assessment data has shown great gains with our students over the last 2 school years and I want to continue that momentum and help my students discover their full potential.
My Project
Students of today thrive on technology. Technology engages them. Technology inspires them. Technology teaches them. My students will gain so much with the purchase of this tablet. They will have exposure to modern touch technology that many of them have never used before. They will become proficient with it and understand how to manipulate it to meet their needs and it will become a creative outlet for them through photo and video editing.
Having this piece of technology in our classroom all day, every day, will provide an avenue for them to complete assignments, math blogs, use math apps, create videos explaining math concepts, search for answers on the Internet, and give them additional time on one of our school adopted math programs, ST Math. ST Math has been integral in our large math gains over the last 2 school years and in order to continue that momentum, we need more ways to access the program so students get an adequate amount of time on it each day.
This project will impact the lives of approximately 60 students each day.
Please consider helping us bring modern technology to students who deserve it, but may not otherwise have access to it. Through this project, my students will grow, learn, thrive, and create. Most importantly, they will love math.
