Young Investigators

My students need construction paper and tag paper, 800 crayons to share, 6 project boards, and 7 Magic School Bus Books.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Goodfriend's classroom raised $287

This project is fully funded

I am currently teaching 26 young investigators in my kindergarten class. I teach in a big city in Illinois with nearly my entire class receiving free lunch. My students are from all over the world and I am so lucky to be working with such a diverse group.

Next week I will take my class on a walking field trip around the neighborhood. During this walk we will be observing and discussing anything and everything that they have questions about or interests in. We will begin an inquiry-based project where the students take control of their learning and choose what they want to learn more about. While taking a walk seems quite simple, a lot of work will be involved in this project and we are in need of materials to help us document every step of the way.

To begin our investigation, I would like to read some Magic School Bus books to show the students how kids can help to lead investigations and can help take charge of their own learning. I have also asked for many materials for us to show what we have learned. My students are most creative with their artwork and pictures represent what they know. Therefore I have asked for paper and crayons. I have also asked for project boards so we can display our findings for a parent night.

Projects are especially valuable for children in the early years because this is a period for rapid intellectual growth. Please help support our project by supplying us with the materials we need.
