My Students
I haven't had the honor of meeting my students this year yet, but that doesn’t mean that I'm not already thinking about all of their needs. Most importantly, I am thinking about what is best for their learning and safety in this new educational world where they are required to be socially distant and their overall safety and well being is at an all time HIGH.
Many of my students come from low income households.
Our school is a Title I school and despite financial strains my students are eager to connect with me and their peers. While they are not physically coming into my classroom I know they will log on excited to be in that school routine and ready to show me what they know! We will be working to learn and grow as readers, authors, and mathematicians. My second graders are capable of ANYTHING, but with your help, we can do even more.
My Project
Although my school strives to provide needed resources, we are a title 1 school with an outdated social studies curriculum. My students need an appealing selection of texts and material that offer current resources. With the Teachers pay Teachers gift cards, we will have access to an updated social studies curriculum/ resources that will satisfy this need and will help my students develop a strong content knowledge. It will deepen their thinking, help them form opinions and inspire fascinating group and individual research projects. Having current social studies materials will allow my students to keep their finger on the pulse of the world around them.
They will support my students, allowing them to learn about the world around them, past and present.
Engaging with materials with multiple perspectives will help them see the world in a new light. They will support critical and abstract thinking skills. These resources are essential for developing children's cognition and will guide them with task that have real-world applications. History and geography also enhances many other subject areas including language arts, science and math.
Lastly, these so needed materials will help my students understand more about the economic, political and social issues of their country and others around the world. Having these important resources will help them to figure out their place in the world. These resources will help to make our classroom a place where students are appropriately challenged, self-sufficient and responsible for their own learning.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
