Every child can be an artist. With quality art materials, it makes it even easier!
I teach Kindergarten at a charter school in California that serves a low income, high need community. Our mission is to instill academic literacy, civic literacy and finally, artistic literacy in our students. Specifically, we integrate visual arts into our academic curriculum.
Kindergarteners love to paint and get messy! In our science unit, we have been learning how to observe various creatures such as fish, snails, worms, pill bugs, etc and communicate our observations through painting.
As a first year teacher, I've bought various supplies to build up my classroom with a limited budget. To ensure that my students get opportunities to paint, I have been borrowing materials from other teachers, but it would be great if we could have our own class set of paintbrushes, smocks, and special watercolor paper.
Kindergarteners need quality paintbrushes that fit their little hands for watercolor and tempera painting, paper that makes their work stand out, and smocks to protect their clothing from paint splatters! These art supplies will help develop fine motor skills, confidence, observational skills, and an appreciation for art!
In an age where more and more art programs have been cut from schools, I continue to teach the importance of art in the classroom. Your help will ensure that my students discover that art can be connected to all academic subjects.
