My Students
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up" - Pablo Picasso. My goal as an art teacher is to instill my love of art in my students and to provide them with the knowledge, tools and resources they need so that they will remain an artist.
My school is a large elementary school located in a high poverty area.
I teach art to a diverse population of children. My students are in grades kindergarten to sixth grade. They range from special needs students to gifted students, as well as English language learners. All of my students have different artistic abilities, but for the most part they all love art! Some students may struggle with reading or math, but everyone can be successful in art. It gives every child the chance to be creative and express themselves in their own way. It helps to build their self-esteem. The looks on the children's faces after creating a project is priceless!
My Project
Watercolor paints and paintbrushes are a staple needed in every art classroom. They are the basis for most of the projects my students will create. These materials will be used in basic lessons to teach color and color mixing to more complex projects such as creating a cityscape or a Kandinsky style painting.
Art education is for all students.
It provides learning opportunities for the artistically talented, as well as for students who may never produce art outside of the classroom. It will introduce children to materials and different techniques. In whichever category my students are in, art class will be a learning, encouraging and enriching part of their day.
