Young Artists Need Bright, Bold Supplies To Get Creating!

My students need pencils, canvas panels, Acrylic paints in many colors, Sharpie markers with wide ends in assorted and metallic colors, pipe cleaners, and a few aprons.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the only art teacher in a NYC public school serving over 500 students from grades K-8. Supplies were not provided by our school this year and it looks like we are not going to be getting any next year either. Our school serves a low-income population.

My students LOVE to paint.

The problem? We are running on empty! For the past few years I have been buying these supplies on my own and I simply cannot afford to do that anymore. They need many paint supplies to create some bold imaginative works of art.

My Project

It's time to fill up our art supplies closet and get our students' imaginations going. We need lots of canvas boards. The students really enjoy using them and take pride in their finished work when I hang it in the display cases and stand it up on the easels. I have asked for 100 canvas panels. This would help not only my current students, but next year's as well. We also need lots of paint! I have asked for many assorted colors of acrylic paints that will be used with the canvas panels. Some cups with lids can help save and reuse mixed colors so we aren't wasting supplies. The students need some pipe cleaners for crafting and a few aprons to keep clothes clean. We also need various sized sharpies and metallic markers for detail work and labeling our work for display.

Bring the colorful art back to our arts program!

We are sick of just using worn out markers and dull colored pencils. Please help me to reach my students on all levels through painting. Give them a chance to use materials that students in more affluent areas get to use all the time. Thank you!!
