Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you enter the door to our kindergarten class, you will see twenty boys and girls playing and working with manipulatives ranging from counting counters, letter blocks, a magnifying glass, etc. Though my students come from different backgrounds and nationalities, they all learn through play and hands-on experiences. Many of them speak Spanish as a first language.

They yearn to connect and learn from one another.

My students come to kindergarten with a range of prior knowledge; however, I differentiate instruction to cater to all their needs. They are full of energy, and they learn best from moving and acting out.

My Project

The S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) approach of teaching has now transformed to S.T.E.A.M. which also incorporates the arts.

Adding the arts is a way of adding creativity to STEM, calling on students' artistic right brain to generate more creative and innovative thinking.

Though we have many supplies that help us incorporate the science, technology, engineering and math aspect, we lack the necessary items to add some of the arts lessons. The watercolors will help my students illustrate their ideas in an artistic, creative way. The flip chart will help us come up with creative ideas as a class. The apron and whistle will assist in the collecting of supplies and instruction portion.
