My Project

My students love to compare experiences. They come from diverse neighborhoods and backgrounds. Often students will say "It was hot by my house." while others may say "No it wasn't. It was pretty cool."

Bringing a weather sensor home to collect data overnight will allow my students to compare microclimates.

Students do not realize housing types, greenspace coverage and neighborhood design can have as much as 10% differences in temperature and relative humidity.

Often, my students will discuss the socio-economic influences based upon their experiences. Bringing scientific data into the conversation gives another level of discussion to bring awareness.
