Help me give my students access to fun strategy and math skills building games. Playing games like Battleship promote strategic thinking and teach the math standard concept of coordinate planes.

My Students
The fifth-grade students at our school are constantly working toward being stewards of our watershed, empowered decision makers, historians and conscientious community members. We are located in south-central Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We are an active, outdoorsy and environmentally aware class. Being engaged with our "backyard" keeps us connected to our watershed.
Our daily goal is to explore learning through personal experience and modeling.
The fifth graders of our school value the knowledge they acquire in this year of study, and some students reflect upon graduation that it was their favorite.
My Project
Remember playing the original graphing coordinates game call Battleship when you were younger? It is the game in which players try to sink the opponent's hidden ships. You practiced strategic thinking and coordinate grids all in the name of fun.
This game will provide my class with the opportunity to engage with peers rather than playing individually a digital/computer game.
Holding class Battleship tournaments will teach sportsmanship, strategic thinking and practice with the 5th-grade math standard coordinate planes.
There are five 5th grade classes at my school site. All five classes will have access to the Battleship games to hold their own class tournaments.
