My Project

During the upcoming fall and winter months, I am excited to treat my students to comforting cups of hot chocolate and delicious ramen-style noodle soup to keep them warm, cozy, ready and GROUNDED.

Hunger pangs are difficult to avoid, especially when you’re labeled as an at-risk youth trying to make sense of life with only 13-19 years of experience.

Why soup? According to the Lifestyle Desk New Delhi | December 9, 2022, soup has everything we need.

* It is a high source of fluids.

*Soups are healthy and nutritious.

*Soup preserves its nutritional value.

*They are full of healthy fibres.

*Soups are rich in taste.

*It is a powerhouse of antioxidants.

*Soups fill up the volume in your stomach.

*It leaves less room for more calorie-dense food items.

My highschool is the last chance for youths in my district to earn their diploma. Many have been kicked out of their previous buildings. Some students come from jail or lockup. I have a group of individuals who just come to my class and leave the building right after.

I’ve been treating my students soup, tea, hot chocolate and all things healthy for the past two years with much success. As a music teacher, I take pride in keeping my students’ lungs, resonating spaces, larynx, diaphragm, thyroid cartilage, soft palate, and back and abdominal muscles strong and healthy. Singing/music/performing are an extended form of communication. Sometimes, all it takes to break through the tough barriers of our youth is to simply ask, “Hey man, can I fix you up some warm Grandma’s Asian Memories soup?”
