Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a span school, serving students in grades 6-12. We are in an urban neighborhood. Many of our students immigrated from another country or are the children of immigrants. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school.

My students are college-bound, highly motivated, hard working and dream of success.

They are awesome! They are nearly all from lower socioeconomic status but have the endurance to make it to 12th grade and most aim to go to college and get a degree. They dream of becoming everything from doctors to teachers to lawyers and entrepreneurs.

My Project

I have noticed that if I am hungry, then I have a hard time focusing. Of course, the same thing is true for my students. They are growing teenagers and often come to class hungry. I cannot expect them to concentrate and do good work if they haven't eaten.

That is why I am asking for these snacks, such as granola bars, baked chips and crackers.

If students are hungry, I am happy to give them snacks if it helps them concentrate. Then we can stop worrying about those needs, and focus on learning and growing as readers, writers and thinkers.
