My students need fraction die cut templates to give everyone the chance to touch and experience fractions.

My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Richmond, VA. My students come from a low income, high poverty environment. All students are given free breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Our school struggles meeting the minimum state requirements. Many of our students are at least one grade below level in reading and struggle in math. They are easily frustrated in the classroom when reading from a textbook or completing a worksheet. The students light up when they are given the opportunity to complete hands-on activities.
My students are amazing!
They come alive during math. They are full of energy and so excited to do hands-on activities. The students often think they are playing a game instead of learning. Using manipulatives makes a huge difference in their understanding of any concept. They enjoy working with other students during our activities and are engaged in math conversations. I can't wait to introduce new concepts to see their little faces light up with joy. It is awesome to see them love math almost as much as I do!
My Project
Google 'mathematician' and you will see images of mostly men, some men with long hair, but still men. Changing this thought in people is difficult. It is even more difficult to change this thought in a child's mind. They see a stereotype and believe it. My mission is to make math fun and to make them love math! Once they have the love in their heart, hopefully they will continue in the field.
Using manipulatives and giving them hands on experiences help students to enjoy math.
These fraction die cuts will allow me to make multiple fraction manipulatives for all of the students. This will allow each student to have their own fraction pieces to manipulate, as well as take home, to continue the love of math and share it with their families.
