This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are happy, hardworking first graders who love school and really embody the joy of learning. They are immigrants or the children of immigrants and are mostly second language learners. The children attend a medium-sized, urban elementary school which cannot afford to provide all of the resources that we might want to share with them. Unfortunately, their parents are often unable to provide these extras either. As teachers, we believe that our kids deserve to have all the same experiences and opportunities as their more well-off counterparts. The kids are eager to learn, and it is our responsibility to help them succeed.
My Project
With the shift to online learning, we need to provide students with the materials they need for a rich, educational experience. My students need individual, dry erase whiteboards and markers so they can continue to practice writing and problem solving in a concrete and engaging way.
Working on a computer is great, but there are some things that don't lend themselves to virtual learning.
My students are 6 and 7 years old and need to practice writing and reading letters and words. They need a place where they can work out math problems and illustrate their thinking. Having a white board that they can write on, share with the teacher or class, and then erase would be invaluable.
