Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These days no school is getting enough money to provide students with everything they need. I teach Kindergarten in a high-poverty school, serving students from varying backgrounds, including English Learners and students with special needs.
Kindergarten is alive with learning! Children this age hunger for activities they can get their hands involved in. Art is such an important component of their development and a wonderful way to allow them an opportunity to express themselves. Creating Art helps students to improve cognitive and fine motor skills, in addition to self-expression. But Art supplies are hard to come by.
We need two easels, tempera paints, white paper, paint cups, brushes, and kid-shaped sponges. Two easels would allow four students to paint during Art Centers. Currently, my students paint flat on the table, limiting the amount of space they have and their ability to "visualize" the ideas they are trying to express. An easel would make them feel like real artists!
Your generous support will ensure that my students have daily opportunities to express themselves through Art. And through Art they will develop the cognitive and fine motor skills needed across the content areas. Help my students become Art Smart!
