I teach first grade in a rural economically deprived area. I have been teaching the same grade at the same school for 12 year. Each year I have 1 or 2 special needs students in my class.
Every year my school has always been able to provide Words I use When I Write books as part as my writing curriculum. However this year, with the extreme budget cuts, I am not able to get these books for my students.
They are essential to their learning and becoming good writers. They need them for their daily writing and they end of year writing project which they author and illustrate their own fictional story. It was very successful last year.
Without these books their quality of writing will not be at the standard that I hold them to. I want them to become successful in all their academic areas especially writing.
