My Project
Not all students see themselves in picture books or hear about their families and traditions and customs, and lifestyles in everyday literature. I would like for all students to feel seen and heard, and represented when they hear a story.
The selected books showcase some of the ethnicities that are underrepresented in children's literature and represent those students in my classroom and at my school.
I want them to feel like they, too, are part of the world around them!
The map is for reference and a classroom display entitled "The World in Our Room," and I wish to have pictures of the students pointing to where their families originate from in the world. For some, this may be grandparents, but for many of my students, it is their parents, or often them. I want to foster a sense of belonging.
