it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am committed to creating a dedicated space within the classroom where students can go to manage their emotions and feelings, giving them the best opportunity to learn and thrive.
A well-designed area focused on social-emotional learning is increasingly essential in classrooms.
With the limited items I currently have in the classroom geared towards their emotional regulation, students have already shown an ability to regulate and return to learning. The additional items in this space will continue to support students in developing key skills such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and social awareness. The resources in this “comfort corner” will help students recognize their emotions through visual aids and provide them with effective strategies for managing those feelings. Here, students can engage in coping activities through sensory play with items like fidget tools, building blocks, and other tactile toys.
When students express the need for a break, I want to offer them a place specifically designed to help regulate their nervous systems. This area will provide not only the tools and visual resources to help them understand and process their emotions but also small incentives, like snacks, which can serve as a motivator and reinforce positive engagement with the space.
By promoting emotional regulation, this space will empower students to achieve a calm and focused state, which is critical for meaningful learning. It will also foster the motivation and inspiration they need to fully embrace their role as students.
