This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been participating in virtual learning for almost 2 years and some had never been on a middle school campus! Upon returning in person, they had to adjust to following rules, and making friends, and were not accustomed to the independence every student experiences as a middle schooler! Many of them came onto campus with social-emotional anxieties, anger management issues, and no social skills.

My goal was to give them easy coping skills and we began with yoga breathing!

I taught them the importance of stopping to inhale and exhale and we continued when seated at our desks. I have towels and water bottles which I purchased, and we began to venture outdoors. But, we know that towels don't stay clean long when on grass!

I want to finish our year with some true yoga stretches and poses and definitely clean and sturdy mats and have their own water bottles which they can refill easily after our workout!

I want them to learn to use yoga as they move from middle school to high school and continue to have positive mindsets on all the possibilities they will enjoy being able to control and self-manage many of their behaviors on their own!
