This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Mindful Movement or Yoga has been shown to help students better relax and learn to listen to their body and mind. This leads to students learning and engaging in self-regulation behaviors. When our young students learn this skill, they can deal with the trials and tribulations of growing up and achieving in this hectic and pressure-filled world we live in.
My students desperately need this skill, and I have been fortunate this year to engage in a 200-hour Social Emotional Learning and Yoga certification program (Breath For Change).
I have the skills to help me bring the benefits of mindfulness and Yoga to others. Now, I need a few very helpful tools to make this happen!!!
With some basic Yoga Mats and props, I will be offering students this year and for years to come a way to know their bodies and their SELF. I want to give them tools to grow on. I would SO appreciate your help in helping me offer these SEL-Trauma-informed yoga classes to my well-deserving, beautiful students.
The students in my school district come from incredibly diverse backgrounds, and many of them have a home experience that does not allow them to access opportunities such as Yoga classes.
