Yoga Mats: Learning and Practicing How to Nama-Stay Calm
Help me give my students yoga mats to practice good social emotional behavior. Mats will also double as napping mats when we end our 20 min yoga/breathing break with shavasana (relaxation) leading into class nap time.

My Students
As a teacher in a preschool room in a low-income school district, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I strive to provide them with a fun, interactive, safe, and meaningful learning environment. As their teacher I try to instill the importance of communicating/listening to one another, being a good citizen and leader, and using trauma-informed techniques to aide them in their social emotional development.
My students have various learning styles, backgrounds and needs.
Due to being located in an inner-city, our school budget is non-exsistent and in order to provide my students with the best learning experiences I can give them, I typically find ways to procure these items and experiences out of pocket or by any means I can - which is where DonorsChoose.org comes in.
My Project
Our classroom has began incorporating yoga into our school day but currently use the classroom carpeting - making it easy for students to slip and fall.
Practicing yoga allows students extra gross motor time, teaches how to listen/follow directions, and how.
Additionally, yoga helps students to regulate their emotions, teaches new coping techniques, and provides a positive outlet to deal with trauma.
This projects allows students to have their own yoga mats. By having their own mats, students will focus and take practice more seriously.
The mats will also serve a secondary purpose: nap time mats. The current mats students use are worn out, tattered, and repaired several times over with tape. They have seen much better days. These particular yoga mats in this project are extra thick for comfort, durable, and will help eliminate extra transitions and distractions as we will be able to go from yoga to shavasana (relaxation), to nap time without missing a beat.
