My Project
The world can be a busy and stressful place for young children coming into a school environment. In our class, we have varied backgrounds and needs. The one thing we all have in common is the need to breathe and be mindful learners. During our mindful movement time, we stretch and listen to our deep breaths. We calm our bodies, minds, and hearts to focus on learning. Supporting books help students understand the goals of mindfulness.
Yoga brings students into the present moment – the most basic requirement for learning.
Here are some of the benefits of yoga in the classroom:
-Improves mind/body awareness and self-awareness.
-Encourages respect for oneself and others.
-Enhances resilience and coping skills.
-Promotes a more relaxed, comfortable state of being – the perfect state for teaching and learning.
-Provides opportunities for beneficial motor breaks throughout the day.
-Reduces anger, depression, anxiety, tension, and fatigue.
-Improves confidence and self-esteem.
-Has a positive impact on students’ academic performance.
-Enhances focus, attention, concentration, comprehension, and memory.
-Encourages community and connectedness within the classroom.
Yoga is for every body, shape and size. A class set of yoga blocks will allow students more stability and options to make the practice more comfortable and accessible, along with supporting literature to help us understand.
