Yoga for Emotional Disorders

My Students

My students, grades 9-12, are students with IEPs and have an eligibility of Emotional Disturbance. Many of my students have PTSD from horrible events in their childhood and are coping in the best method they can with a limited social-emotional skill set. They have overcome so much in their young lives and they need positive techniques to help them grow.

My students are beautiful humans and they need our help.

My Project

My students need tools to help them manage their emotions and heal from prior trauma. Our "BD" class (behavior disorder or emotional disturbance) uses many tools to teach and practice resilience, empathy, calming techniques, and self-advocacy so that they may succeed in life and academics.

This student population is at high-risk for drug abuse, violence, and suicide.

Due to their high risk-status, our "social skills" class meets every morning. If we begin our morning with yoga, I will teach my students a powerful tool that will be available for their entire lives.
