Yoga Enters the Classroom and Enlightens Student's Education! Namaste!
My students need 30 yoga mats, yoga practice cards, a yoga book, and a set of clipboards to incorporate yoga into their educational learning experience!
I teach 28 4th grade students, ages 9 and 10! They are all unique individuals with a variety of talents, abilities, needs, characteristics, personalities, academic abilities and learning styles. For some of my students, learning comes easy, and for other students, academics is challenging and discouraging.
My students are special because they come into the classroom everyday, eager to be at school, despite their difficulties!
Incorporating yoga into academics, puts students on a common ground, where each student can become their personal best, be responsible for their own learning and think about their thinking in the present moment.
My students have determination, motivation, and potential for greatness! Their excitement shows as they enter the classroom with happy smiles, positive energy, and a love for learning! In fact, one student told his mother, he wanted her to reschedule their family cruise vacation because he didn't want to miss school!
That made me smile!
My Project
My project is to bring yoga into the classroom to enhance students' academic learning! There are many benefits of doing Yoga with students! Yoga helps provide a peaceful and productive classroom. It helps with brain boosting, clearing the mind, mindful action, visualization, positive thinking, helps with focus, concentration, and builds student confidence. Yoga helps students maintain appropriate behavior and helps students get better grades!
Children learn how to exercise with calming movements and postures that help them gain strength and endurance through breathing exercises.
Some of the resources I am asking for are visual cards that display the movement and postures for students to learn about and practice the poses. There is also an amazing book that gives support and help for students to follow. Yoga mats and clip boards will also allow students a physical area they can go to for support and practice with their skills.
Because children encounter emotional, social, and physical challenges, yoga teaches students valuable strategies and provides tools for them to combat conflicts, stress, and anxiety through mindfulness. Yoga encourages wellness, addressing the whole child, socially and emotionally!
What students practice and learn, by incorporating yoga into their education, not only helps them perform better academically and emotionally in the classroom, but it helps them in their everyday lives as well.
As a teacher, I practices yoga everyday, and I have seen positive benefits in my own life. I am excited to share this valuable knowledge with my students to enhance their educational experience!
In advance, I want to thank all those who help make this project a reality and success for my students and me!
