Yoga Club: Focus, Stress Relief and Wellness for Teens

My students need yoga accessories such as mats and blocks as well as a yoga curriculum specifically geared towards high school students.

My Students

My students are 9th-12th graders attending a public school in a big city in Illinois. Most of them have not been exposed to the practice of yoga which offers a chance to focus, relax, stretch, breathe and meditate.

They would benefit from an after school yoga club where they could meet weekly to develop their yoga practice and set intentions for their school and personal lives.

With your support, the yoga club could provide an environment and practice that will offer a much needed release from the stresses they face in school and at home every day. "Aside from the physical benefits, yoga teaches teens techniques for coping with the unique issues they're faced with everyday—insecurity about their changing bodies, the enormous pressure to fit in, stressful schedules, and uncertainty about their beliefs and their futures." My Project

Each student attending the yoga club will need a yoga mat and block in order to practice comfortably. The yoga mats provide an individual space for each student and the blocks provide additional support for various poses. The curriculum guides will help me design meaningful classes that build on one another. The units include yoga practice as well as meditation, nutrition and healthy lifestyle lessons.

It is so important to offer teenagers an outlet for the stresses they encounter at school and at home.

I want to offer a safe environment for them to practice yoga after school as part of a yoga club. Your generous donations will make it possible for students to have the accessories necessary to practice yoga fully and safely. As a yoga practitioner myself, I know the benefits of the mind, body spirit practice of yoga and can't wait to share this with my students.
