This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are sweet little 5 year olds that come from immigrant families. Our school services many refugee families that come from all over the world. The SES of our families is 95% low income and our first priority for these children that live in poverty is to provide a safe place where they can come to learn and eat nutritional meals. Once these children earn our trust and feel safe, they are excited to discover and learn through our educational programs.

My Project

I have a mixed group which consists of one group of English Language Learners. These students are learning how to read in their own language. Emergent readers are crucial in providing reading practice to these students.

The more opportunities to practice reading, the more fluent they will become in reading.

A minimum of three sets of each book is needed so that students can work in small group to practice. Enriching my classroom Spanish library will give students the opportunities to pick and choose to read topics that interest them.
