This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Title I school provides free lunch, as well as breakfast, to all students everyday. Many of my students are low income, English as a second language learners, and/or raised by a single parent or grandparents.
Despite their challenges, my students are excited about learning and have great potential.
My students love school and can't wait to see what each day holds. They learn through repetitive, hands-on practice, and vocalizing. My class is my second family; we take care of each other.
My Project
Young children need tangible materials to manipulate and discover independently. These magnetic paddle boards are an easy way to keep materials together and have multiple purposes.
My students will be so motivated to figure out the answer when they can all show me that they know it and receive immediate feedback!
The boards can be used for number sense activities that help children understand what makes an number as well as for addition and subtraction. We can use the magnets on the ten frame side at the beginning of the year and the double ten frame side when we start working with larger numbers. We can also use the dry erase markers to write the matching number sentence.
