Help me give my students a new classroom library for the art room that includes reading about contemporary art in Scholastic Art magazine for my older students, and mapping, community helpers, nature, animals and social-emotional skills.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Looney's classroom raised $621
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students attend a magnet school in Connecticut where half of the students come from inner city urban neighborhoods to attend. More than half qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Most have never been introduced to making art before experiencing it at school In order for my students to have a well-rounded education, the arts are an integral part.
By practicing visual art, it has been shown that students can improve concentration and focus in other academic areas.
Students who often struggle with other aspects of school find a refuge in making and creating art.
My Project
My students will be allowed time to read in art class, whether it is the teacher reading a book that ties into a specific project (i.e. reading Claymates before doing a clay project), or on their own after their work is done.
Many of my students miss the literacy connection and are always needing ways to strengthen it even in their special subject area such as art.
This donation of brand new books will excite them and be available at their disposal in the art room whenever they need it to be.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
