This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you meet my students, you understand that they are so much more than a label or a statistic. My kids belong to one of the richest communities of Chicago.

Our students statistically have always been low-income but are some of the best and brightest from the city.

This neighborhood, like my kids, is predominantly Mexican-American. They are hard-working students that usually balance school, family (caring for siblings), sports and after-school clubs and activities. They are highly motivated to be successful, but can always use any help afforded to them.

My Project

The Progressive Era in the United States brought about significant changes in the United States. I have designed my 8th grade reading instruction to both address informational text structures and features while learning about the history of Progressivism in the United States. I think it's our duty to truly understand how American culture has formed over time.

Women won the right to vote after an exhaustive fight for suffrage; our students today need to learn that everything is possible through persistence.

This year, with an increase in class sizes, I am short in the number of texts I have to read about this important event in history with my students. I find it to be an exceptional text to address the needs of my diverse students.
