My Students
I'm sure you are well aware of the many challenges that a student in a high poverty, urban middle/high school face. Those are the challenges of my students. We are a 7-12 Public STEM school. As you can imagine our students receive government assistance for their basic needs like shelter and food. Despite so many challenges in their personal lives they are eager to learn and desperate for an environment where they can safely express who they are. Given the chance, these kids will really surprise you!
We had our first two students injured in a shooting on the school grounds this year and we just tragically lost a third young man to gun violence, we are deeply in need of hope this year.
My Project
A yearbook helps students remember the positive. It gives them hope every time they open it. We need someone to fund the printing of the yearbooks.
We are making positive memories for a group of students who have persevered through a lot.
We have had more than our fair share of gun shot wounds, gang violence, and crime. Twenty years from now my hope is that the positive memories we give our students through this yearbook will overcome some of the negative. There is a lot of perseverance and joy here. Our students are resilient, but in need of hope. Our students however can not afford the $50 price tag attached to a senior yearbook.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
