My Students
The students in my class are at risk of dropping out and not going to college or finding a job. They have many barriers that they are overcoming in order to be successful in life. Each day we learn new job and life skills in order to help them be successful in their home and professional lives.
We are from a small town where everybody knows your name.
My students are in my class because they are having trouble either with school or in their personal lives. I teach 9th through 12th graders that are an amazing group of teenagers. Over 95% of our children qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Even though some of our children live in unfavorable conditions, they are always happy and ready to learn. They come in everyday excited and are eager to learn and make something amazing our of their lives. I hope they never lose that desire to learn all that they can and make a change in the world.
My Project
The requested camera will allow my students to begin a journey and the opportunity of beginning a school news program at our high school. These students will record things that happen on a day-to-day basis in our school. They will also record athletic events, art shows, chorus concerts, band performances, and much, much more. Students will edit and produce a weekly news broadcast for our school. They will learn basic video shooting and editing skills, producing, and marketing our program.
We also want to foster mentorships between the elementary, middle and high school students by completing video projects for all three of our schools in our town. This will give my students the opportunity to learn job skills that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.
This will give my students the opportunity to learn job skills that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.
While producing a news program, the students will have to learn communication skills, written and verbal communications, leadership, decision-making, and how to work effectively with others. This will allow them to create something that they can be proud of and will give them a sense of pride and ownership in our school. It will teach them work ethic and working with diversity.
