My Project

I want to have crochet and knitting materials accessible to students in the classroom as an optional activity when they have finished classwork. While learning to crochet or knit students can work on developing patience and learn that it is okay if something doesn’t come easily the first time they try. Students in my classroom represent the diversity of students we have in our school.

Learning a new skill like crocheting or knitting is a great way for students to understand that making mistakes can help them move from frustrations and setbacks to success.

Learning to knit or crochet offers numerous educational benefits, including improved fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through precise movements. These crafts also enhance concentration and focus, as their repetitive nature encourages mindfulness. Additionally, knitting and crocheting promote creativity by allowing students to experiment with color and design, while also reinforcing math skills through counting stitches and following patterns.

These activities teach valuable life skills such as patience and perseverance, as students learn to overcome challenges and complete projects. They also foster social skills by providing opportunities for collaboration, allowing students to work on personal projects in a group setting. Completing a project instills a sense of accomplishment, boosting self-esteem and confidence, while introducing students to the rich cultural histories associated with these crafts. Knitting and crocheting engage students in a multiple learning experience that promotes personal growth and skill development while providing an activity they can enjoy throughout their lives.
